Ministry of Regional Development

Basic information on the organisation, contacts and competences of the Ministry of Regional Development. The Ministry of Regional Development of the Czech Republic belongs to the system of central government authorities of the Czech Republic in the fields delimited by relevant legal documents. It plays an important role within the State administration through the extent of its powers, competences and liabilities for the management of financial means.

The Ministry was established with the effect from 1st November, 1996 and has been a central government authority in the matters of:
  • Regional policy,
  • Housing policy,
  • Development of dwelling and housing stock,
  • Letting of flats and non-residential premises,
  • Spatial planning,
  • Building rules,
  • Expropriation,
  • Investment policy,
  • Tourism,
  • Undertaking.

In addition to the exercise of competences referred to above, the Ministry of Regional Development
 
  • administers financial means intended for ensuring the housing policy and the regional policy of the State, coordinates activities of the Ministries and other central government authorities in arranging for the housing policy and regional policy of the State,
  • plays the role of the National Coordination Authority (NCO), which lays down a single framework for management and implementation of the assistance granted from structural funds and the Cohesion Fund in the Czech Republic,
  • secures the activities related to the EU cohesion policy in the Czech Republic, which is targeted on  the reduction of disparities between the levels of development of various regions in the Czech Republic, and on convergence of the economic level of the Czech Republic with the EU,
  • ensures participation of the Czech Republic in the EU Territorial Agenda, which constitutes a strategic and action framework of the spatial development of Europe with linkage to national concepts of spatial development,
  • renders information and methodical assistance to higher territorial self-governing units, towns, municipalities and associations thereof, and assures the activities relating to the process of involvement of territorial self-governing units into European regional structures.
